14k NATURAL GOLD

What is 14k natural white gold?

To answer this question, we first want to give a little background about gold and its alloys.

All gold mined from the earth is yellow gold (24k). Pure gold is very soft and not sturdy enough for daily wear in jewelry, so gold is alloyed with other metals to provide it with more strength and durability. The percentage of the alloy refers to the karat. For example, 14k gold has a requirement of 58.3% pure gold and the remaining 41.7% will be a variety of alloys.

Altering the metal types in the alloys, is how we achieve the different color gold. For example, 14k rose gold will have a high percentage of copper in the alloy to bring out more rosy tones whereas white gold will have a high percentage of nickel to bring out whiter tones.

Now, naturally, 14k white gold has a soft yellow hue that progresses slightly as it ages over time.

Commercially, 14k white gold is plated in a bright white metal called Rhodium and has become the industry standard.

We find both options beautiful in their own right and like to offer natural white gold, as it is another way for you to personalize your treasures to truly capture your aesthetic.

How do natural white gold and white gold appear different?

14k natural white gold has a soft yellow hue that is a half-step between 14k yellow gold and your standard commercial 14k white gold with rhodium plating.

Why choose 14k natural white gold?

Natural white gold is a great option for anyone wanting to achieve a more vintage aesthetic in their jewelry choice or when mixing metals as the color differences are less stark. It is also wears beautifully on all skin tones!

How does natural white gold age?

When you receive your 14k natural white gold jewelry, you will notice those soft yellow color tones will pull to the surface with time and wear as they start off with a brighter white color. Having your jewels polished will reset the whole process and you can watch time cascade over your treasures over and over again!
